IL10 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: Although both H-MSCs and E-MSCs increased pulmonary IL-10 levels and reduced collagen content in lung tissue, they did not reverse lung hyperinflation and cardiopulmonary dysfunction in experimental severe emphysema, which corroborates with data from early stage clinical trials that demonstrated no efficacy of allogeneic or autologous MSC administration in individuals with COPD (Weiss et al., 2013; Stolk et al., 2016).
