In the context of hyperoxia exposure to mouse pups, which models a human disease called bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), decreased Fgf10 levels lead to premature death associated with profound alveolar defects (quantified by morphometry analysis for parameters such as mean linear intercept) and impaired AT2 differentiation and decreased surfactant production (Chao et al., 2017). Here, FGF10 is linked to bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
