The top 3 differentially expressed genes were downregulated in T2D neutrophils (Fig. 1B): inflammatory signaling gene SLC9A4 (solute carrier family 9 member A4; log(FC) = − 5.42, FDR-corrected p = 0.001), immune regulating gene NECTIN2 (nectin cell adhesion molecule 2; log(FC) = − 3.77, FDR-corrected p = 0.002), and anti-inflammatory gene PLPP3 (phospholipid phosphatase 3; log(FC) = − 5.37, FDR-corrected p = 0.002); while only GTSCR1 was upregulated in T2D neutrophils (log(FC) = 3.71, FDR-corrected p = 0.02, Fig. 1B). The gene discussed is NECTIN2; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
