The overexpression of TRPV1 in human breast cancer MCF-7 cells has been reported to have no effect on cell numbers; however, the increased expression of exogenous TRPV1 meant that necrosis was more effectively induced by the capsaicin activation of TRPV1 and the subsequent upregulation of c-Fos and the necrotic marker RIP390. The gene discussed is TRPV1; the disease is breast cancer.
