IL6 and retinitis pigmentosa 1: Although vasculitis is assumed to be a cause of CNS involvements in RP,[8] brain autopsies performed in patients with RP showed neuronal loss and gliosis with lymphocytic infiltration, suggesting an autoimmune mechanism in its pathogenesis.[9] The patient in this case showed marked pleocytosis with elevated polymorphonuclear cells and markedly elevated levels of IL-6 and IgG in the CSF.
