Krt8 has been found to have increased expression in some carcinomas (Chu and Weiss, 2002; Gires et al., 2006) and to promote tumor progression and metastases in gastric carcinoma in particular (Fang et al., 2017), but it has also been involved in alveolar epithelial progenitors in lung regeneration and increased replication of respiratory syncytial virus (Shirato et al., 2012; Strunz et al., 2019). The gene discussed is KRT8; the disease is carcinoma.
