ACE2 and acute respiratory distress syndrome: Since the virus enters the host cells by interacting with ACE2, it is hypothesised that the endocytosis of the virus‐ACE2 complex reduces the function of ACE2, leading to an overactivation of the ACE/ANG‐II/AT1R‐axis and resulting in complications such as ARDS and multiorgan failure (Zhang, Wu, et al., 2020).
