Adverse effects of regular NSAID use include several different types of kidney injury and gastrointestinal bleeding.16,17 A previous study18 reported increased use of prescription analgesics including NSAIDs from 2006 to 2015 among Medicare patients with chronic kidney disease.18 Another study19 showed that adverse cardiovascular events were associated with selective cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitors and nonselective NSAIDs such as diclofenac. Here, PTGS2 is linked to chronic kidney disease.
