Conflicting data on tocilizumab and other inhibitors of IL-6 signaling in patients with severe COVID-19 suggests that immunosuppressive strategies may be of limited benefit once end-organ damage has developed (Investigators et al., 2021; Rosas et al., 2021; Salama et al., 2021; Stone et al., 2020; Lescure et al., 2021; Della-Torre et al., 2020), and highlight the importance of identifying drugs that can prevent dysregulated immune responses and immune-mediated damage.
