Compared to healthy controls, CD16+ monocytes from people with COVID-19 had significantly upregulated expression of genes involved in inflammation including cytokines and chemokines, such as IL-1β, CXCL8, CCL3 (MIP-1α), and CCL4 (MIP-1β) (Figure 2D).
