miR‐126‐3p and miR‐221‐3p modulation exerted its antitumoral effect through the induction of apoptotic mechanisms in cancer cells, as shown by the increase in cleaved caspase 3‐positive cells and by blockade of AKT phosphorylation in treated tumours (Fig. 5A and Fig. S8A).
