First, ACE2 is mainly in cells of the S1, S2, and S3 segments of the kidney proximal tubule [1, 2, 34], as shown by Wysocki and coworkers in a recent analysis of single cell transcriptomic data, and second, changes in the tubulointerstitium, in particular interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy, predict long term clinical outcomes in CKD [35, 36]. Here, ACE2 is linked to chronic kidney disease.
