The identification of a novel apoA-I binding protein DSC1 as a negative regulator of HDL biogenesis suggests that apoA-I-DSC1 interactions may contribute to apoA-I retention in the atherosclerotic plaque and thus low HDL levels in ASCVD (Choi et al., 2018; Schwertani et al., 2018). The gene discussed is DSC1; the disease is atherosclerosis.
