The association between hypomagnesemia and recurrent infection was reported in a previous study in which patients with X-linked XMEN, a hereditary immune deficiency syndrome in which dysfunction of the Mg channel, MAGT1, in T lymphocytes leads to a low intra-lymphocytic free Mg concentration, suffered from recurrent infection (Ravell et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene MAGT1 and familial primary hypomagnesemia.
