PTEN and Abnormal retinal morphology: With downregulation of Pten as a potential target to increase axonal growth and enhance RGC survival in retinal diseases (Park et al., 2008; Leibinger et al., 2012; de Lima et al., 2012; Duan et al., 2015), understanding the fundamental roles that Pten plays in forming and maintaining RGC architecture and connectivity is of high importance, which will impact future clinical therapies that manipulate Pten signaling.
