Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiasis-ectodermal-dystrophy (APECED) also known as autoimmune polyglandular syndrome Type 1 (APS-1) [1] is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the Autoimmune Regulator (AIRE) gene [2]. The gene discussed is AIRE; the disease is autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 1.
