In fact, a recent study by Gumus et al. showed that islet antibody status was not associated with differences in insulin, C-peptide levels, or HbA1c levels.70 Moreover, use of islet antibody testing limits insulin pump use to patients with autoimmune diabetes, which excludes most insulin-requiring patients with T2D, and certainly excludes those with insulin deficiency from other conditions such as pancreatic disease or resection and insulin-requiring patients with other types of diabetes, including gestational diabetes or T2D in pregnancy, where tight glucose control is mandatory. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
