Mutations in the autophagy receptors p62 and OPTN1 cause selective autophagy defects in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); TBK1 is a kinase responsible for the phosphorylation of OPTN1, and its mutations are associated with ALS and frontotemporal dementia [57].
