Despite the rationale of EGFR TKI treatment sequence, in 2018, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved osimertinib as a 1st line treatment for patients with metastatic EGFR mutant NSCLC previously untreated based on the promising results of the FLAURA study that demonstrated superior efficacy of osimertinib over 1st and 2nd generation EGFR TKIs [9,10]. The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
