In a study of 197 CKD patients (age 52 ± 1 years, 123 males) examined shortly before starting dialysis, Axelsson et al. reported that truncal fat mass, estimated by DXA, was significantly positively correlated with both CRP (ρ = 0.23; p < 0.01) and IL-6 (ρ = 0.21; p < 0.01) levels [92]. Here, CRP is linked to chronic kidney disease.
