In the phase 3 study of first-line combination therapy with the programmed cell-death 1 ligand 1 (PDL1) inhibitor atezolizumab and the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor bevacizumab versus standard-of-care sorafenib for advanced HCC (IMbrave150 trial, NCT03434379), treatment with the novel combination resulted in significantly better outcomes than were achieved with sorafenib [9]. This evidence concerns the gene CD274 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
