Interestingly, selected nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), e.g., flufenamic acid, meclofenamic acid, and mefenamic acid, are effective and selective inhibitors of the NLRP3 inflammasome and show therapeutic effects on amyloid beta-induced memory loss in the transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease [155]. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
