In osteoclast precursors, which are cells derived from the same myeloid lineage as macrophages, we observe an up-regulation of immune chemoattractants (CCL1 and CCL23), and inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β and IL-6) from the chemokine-chemokine signaling pathway that may partially explain the mechanism for ARMD. The gene discussed is CCL23; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
