By combining in-silico analysis of miRNome and transcriptome data from healthy pancreatic tissues and IPMN or PDAC tumors via MiRComb software [13], plus qRT-PCR analysis in an independent set of samples, we have found that two commonly deregulated miRNAs (miR-181a and miR-372) in IPMN and PDAC are, in both contexts, negatively correlated with mRNAs encoding actin related proteins (EPB41L4B, ITGA2, and HN1) and metabolism related effectors (NUC2B, SEL1L, ENPP1, and PDK4). The gene discussed is PDK4; the disease is pancreatic intraductal papillary-mucinous neoplasm.
