LGALS3 and atherosclerosis: The results of this study pave the way to future non-invasive targeted imaging of atherosclerosis (by combining safe magnetic nanoparticles as a contrast agent and a new anti-galectin-3 HuAb as a targeting agent) and synergistic therapeutic applications using active pharmaceutical ingredients (e.g., alpha-tocopherol, an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective vitamin) to induce the regression of the vulnerable plaque.
