For the past three decades, intensive clinical, pathobiological, and pharmacological studies have identified VEGF as a major therapeutic target for BRB breakdown in DR, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and other hypoxic retinal vascular diseases (for review see [13]), which has led to the development of anti-VEGF drugs as a major therapeutic strategy for these disorders. Here, VEGFA is linked to age-related macular degeneration.
