Studies performed on glioma cell models have successfully connected the widely known glioma marker, 2-hydroxyglutarate (2-HG) with the IDH1 mutation, as IDH-mutated cells gained a new, unique ability to convert α-KG into 2-HG, that IDH-wildtype glioma cells do not possess [30]. The gene discussed is IDH2; the disease is central nervous system cancer.
