The statin group had more female patients, patients with higher income, higher prevalence of hypertension and diabetes, higher comorbidity scores, greater use of certain medications (i.e., angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers, antihypertensive agents, aspirin (Plavix), insulin, and oral hypoglycemic agents), frequent outpatient visits, and higher probability of hospitalization than the nonstatin group before the PSW matching. Here, ACE is linked to diabetes mellitus.
