In fact, we have shown how IL1β secreted by cancer cells is used to educate surrounding normal resident fibroblasts to create a niche that first induces the recruitment of fibroblasts (enhanced migration) and their proliferation, and then helps tumor cells to overcome the damage induced by chemotherapeutic cytotoxic agents, such as L-OHP and 5-fluorouracyl. This evidence concerns the gene IL1B and cancer.
