Endothelial dysfunctions might be also associated with the impairment of glymphatic pathway, a fluid clearance system recently identified in rodent brain, which clears toxic solutes from brain into meningeal and cervical lymphatic drainage vessels, throughout perivascular and perineural spaces, facilitated by aquaporin-4 (AQP-4) water channels. Here, AQP4 is linked to endothelial dysfunction.
