Commensal bacteria with immunomodulatory potential (Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, Eubacterium rectale, Bifidobacterium), were underrepresented and correlated with the severity of the infection, elevated levels of cytokines and inflammatory blood markers (CRP, LDH, aspartate aminotransferase, and gamma-glutamyl transferase). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is infection.
