The importance of the LMP1-mediated MYC activation pathway was emphasized by a study in which the histone deacetylase inhibitor romidepsin was found to be cytotoxic to an EBV-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in both a cell culture and a mouse xenograft model by reducing the expression of both LMP1 and MYC [102]. The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
