An additional literature review indicated non-apoptotic annexin V-positivity can result from binding of annexin V to still internalised phosphatidylserine (PS) when plasma membrane integrity is lost, even transiently, and from non-apoptotic externalisation of PS associated with tumour cells and endothelial cells in a tumour microenvironment [30,31,32,33]. This evidence concerns the gene ANXA5 and neoplasm.
