CCR5 is a chemokine receptor and is known in the literature for its role in infection pathogenesis, especially in HIV type 1 (HIV-1), where a deletion of 32 bp, present with an allele frequency of 12% in the northern Europe population, confers resistance at the HIV-1 infection in homozygous [13,27,28,29]. The gene discussed is CCR5; the disease is HIV-1 infection.
