Researchers have shown that the severity of COVID-19 is associated with increased levels of inflammatory mediators, including cytokines and chemokines, such as interleukin IL-2, IL-7, IL-10, TNF, granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP1), macrophage inflammatory protein 1 alpha (MIP1α) or CXC10 chemokine ligand (CXCL10) in the blood after SARS-CoV-2 infection [5,28,29].
