Inactivation of WT1 in the embryo results in lethality due to renal agenesis since WT1 is a dominant regulator of kidney development [122] and also affects the heart, liver, pancreas, and septum transversum [123,124], while adult ablation of WT1 leads to multi-organ failure, affecting the kidneys, haematopoiesis, bone, visceral fat, pancreas, and heart [115,117]. This evidence concerns the gene WT1 and renal agenesis.
