Several studies have demonstrated that HFD consumption affects the composition of the gut microbiota along with an increase in metabolic syndrome‐related derangements (i.e., body weight gain, dysfunction of adipose tissue, dysregulation of energy balance, leptin and insulin resistance) and low‐grade inflammation (Davis, 2016; Ellulu et al., 2017; Uranga & Keller, 2019). The gene discussed is LEP; the disease is metabolic syndrome.
