And a recent study (14) found that overexpression of GPAT4 in the liver of mice resulted in liver insulin resistance and thus impairs liver glucose metabolism, leading to increased liver gluconeogenesis and reduced glycogen synthesis, and ultimately destroys glucose homeostasis, indicating that GPAT4 may be a new drug target for potential prevention and treatment of obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (15). Here, GPAT4 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
