Recently published consensus criteria state that an anti-NMDAR encephalitis diagnosis can be made after reasonable exclusion of other disorders, when IgG anti-GluN1 antibodies are detected in CSF and in the presence of rapid onset of symptoms from one or more of the following groups: abnormal (psychiatric) behavior or cognitive dysfunction, speech dysfunction, seizures, movement disorder, decreased level of consciousness, and autonomic dysfunction. The gene discussed is GRIN1; the disease is viral encephalitis.
