This review summarizes representative HBV in vitro infection systems, including recombinant cell lines obtained by integrating the HBV genome into the liver cancer cell genome by genetic engineering techniques and sodium-taurocholate co-transporting polypeptide (NTCP) overexpressing hepatoma cell lines permissive for HBV infection established based on the discovery of the HBV-specific receptor bile-acid pump NTCP. This evidence concerns the gene SLC10A1 and infection.
