This study highlights that ACE2, the functional receptor for SARS-CoV-2, expression is elevated in COPD patients, as previously described [15, 48], However, we extend these previous observations to show further upregulation of this viral receptor in frequent exacerbators and those with worse lung function, as well as in COPD patients using ICS. This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
