The belief that tubular proteinuria may not be deleterious, combined with an appreciation that apical endocytosis is an important entry route for toxins into the PT [69], has led to the suggestion that inhibiting the megalin–cubilin pathway with small molecule inhibitors may be a means of reducing some drug toxicities, for example aminoglycosides (see earlier) and some anti-cancer drugs [7, 76, 77].
