Notably, in a Mexican–American cohort of 141 patients with T2DM and proteinuric CKD, quantification of urinary levels of 12 complement proteins using parallel reaction-monitoring (PRM) liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) revealed urinary abundance of complement C4 and C8, and complement regulatory proteins CD59 and factor H-related protein 2 (FHR2) were strongly associated with progression to ESRD and all-cause death. The gene discussed is CD59; the disease is chronic kidney disease.
