From this point of view, alarmins, like interleukin-33 (IL-33), high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), antimicrobial peptide LL-37, interleukin 1 alpha (IL-1α), defensin, heat-shock protein (HSP), S100 protein (S100) and calprotectin could play a key role in the COVID-19 and that their study can be useful in the clinical evaluation and follow-up of subjects with the most severe pathology such as those with comorbidities. This evidence concerns the gene IL33 and COVID-19.
