IFNA1 and autoimmune disease: Its pathogenic roles include: 1) potent activation of macrophages and neutrophils, 2) upregulation of the expression of MCH-II on APCs including cells that do not express this molecule thus playing a role in development of autoimmune diseases 3) induction of differentiation of Th0 cells to Th1 which in turn produce IFNΥ hence creating a positive feedback loop and 4) stimulation of leukocyte trafficking and chemokine production.
