This represents one of the main obstacles to developing a new strategy to fine‐tune AQP4‐mediated processes in which pathological AQP4 dysfunction plays an active and well documented role such as ischemia (Vella et al., 2015), brain edema (Clement et al., 2020), or neuromyelitis optica (Nicchia et al., 2009; Pisani, Mastrototaro, et al., 2011). This evidence concerns the gene AQP4 and ischemia.
