We conducted a candidate gene analysis of critical regulators of mRNA translation previously associated with cancer formation, including: the mTOR signaling pathway, the translation initiation inhibitor eIF4E binding protein 1 (4EBP1), the translation elongation factor eEF2, the integrated stress response target eukaryotic initiation factor 2α (eIF2α), and eIF4E (11, 28–31). This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and cancer.
