Wogonin (5,7-dihydroxy-8-methoxyflavone) is a flavonoid-like chemical compound known to have anti-cancer effects, it suppresses the activity of matrix metalloproteinase-9, reduces the metastatic ability of HCC cells (Hong et al., 2018) and induces cell cycle arrest by activating glycogen synthase kinase-3β in HCC (Hong et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene MMP9 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
