Nevertheless, there appears to be a pattern in the acute stress response of individuals carrying the Met66 allele in BDNF that results in an upregulation in their cortisol response to stress, which may provide support for the influence of the Val66Met polymorphism in the development of stress-related disorders including neurological disease (Kishi et al., 2018; de Assis and Gasanov, 2019).
