In order to determine whether differences in the expression of SIRT genes are detectable when comparing PD and control samples, and whether the presence of any of the studied SNPs has an effect on the expression of the corresponding SIRT gene, we compared the levels of SIRT1, SIRT2 and SIRT6 mRNAs in peripheral blood samples of PD patients and healthy controls. The gene discussed is SIRT2; the disease is Parkinson disease.
